Eighteen engineers from the China National Petroleum Offshore Engineering Company completed a 12-day course in offshore structure and pipeline construction at Høvik during spring 2009.
The China National Petroleum Offshore Engineering Company (CPOE) is relatively young company that was created to boost exploitation of China’s offshore reserves and those of other countries.
Knowledge and competence
“DNV is very well known throughout the industry in China as an independent verification and classification body. So we decided that enrolling on a DNV Energy training course would be an ideal way to benefit from DNV’s experience, knowledge and technical expertise” explained Zhang Xinghong, project manager for CPOE.
The DNV Offshore Structure and Pipeline Construction course consists of a 12-day intensive programme that covers risk-related technical issues. The course is taught by several DNV experts.
Wide ranging course
“The course was attended by middle management, project managers and senior engineers. The course was very wide ranging in terms of subject areas including: pipelines, jackets, floating production, subsea, components, risk, QA/QC, NDT, inspection, design, fabrication, installation, pre-commissioning, commissioning, operation, maintenance, repair and decommissioning.” says Asle Venås, Offshore Pipeline Segment Director for DNV Energy Nordic and Eurasia.
“CPOE is a subsidiary of China Petroleum that at the moment have only onshore operations. They are now going offshore and are currently planning enormous offshore investments in the years to come. DNV hopes to get a share of this activity and we see this course as a very good opportunity to present DNV's knowledge and competence. We now have good contacts within CPOE, and developing relations in this way is a very important part of Chinese business culture,” Mr Venås says.
The course participants will undertake additional DNV training in September that will consist of a three-day site visit in Stavanger.
| In 2004, China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), China’s largest oil producer, established an offshore oil engineering subsidiary, to boost the exploitation of oil in China's waters. The subsidiary, China National Petroleum Offshore Engineering Co. Ltd. (CPOE), should also expedite CNPC's overseas expansion by helping it tap into offshore reserves in foreign countries. |
