A Pre-Annual Meeting Course @ the SNAME 2011 Annual Meeting & Expo, November 16-18, 2011

Introduction:
The course will enable participants to obtain good knowledge of the fire safety requirements of SOLAS and the MODU Code.
Specification:
Upon completion of the course, the participant should expect to have gained general knowledge about the IMO organization and SOLAS build-up, the content and applicability of the MODU Code vs SOLAS and knowledge about statutory fire safety requirements. The course will focus on structural fire protection (fire categories, A- and B- class divisions, penetrations (doors, cables, pipes etc), arrangement of ventilation), selected fixed fire extinguishing systems (CO2, inside air foam, local application systems) and engine room fire safety. At last, Offshore Supply Vessels are used to exemplify fire safety precautions that apply for vessels undertaking special services (firefighting, oil recovery, standby, well stimulation etc).

This covers approval of both active and passive fire protection; e.g. location of spaces, materials, fire detection and alarm systems, structural protection, HVAC, escape, fire main, deluge, sprinkler and water mist systems, foam systems, CO2 and other equivalent gas fire extinguishing systems. She has also got experience from DNV type approval and MED approval of constructions, components and systems with respect to active and passive fire safety.
