The Phase 3 report is an assessment of international standards for safe exploration, production and transportation of oil and gas in the Barents Sea. The Phase 4 report aim to provide concrete guidance for the industry within selected priority topics.

The transportation industry, like most other industries, contributes to emissions of local pollutants (i.e. NOx, SOx) and particles, consequently resulting in significant health problems in North America, as well as in other parts of the world. Local, regional and international regulators have implemented new regulations in order to address these issues. In the report 'Greener shipping in North America', DNV concludes that LNG fuel is the supreme solution to compliance with the upcoming Emission Control Areas (ECA) requirements to be enforced in North America from August 2012.
On 11 May 2010 the National Energy Board of Canada announced that it would conduct a review of Arctic safety and environmental offshore drilling requirements (the Arctic Review). The Arctic Review will examine the best available information concerning the hazards, risks and mitigation measures associated with offshore drilling activities in the Canadian Arctic and measures to both prevent and respond to accidents and malfunctions. Investigations conducted into previous major accidents reveal that systemic or organizational deficiencies lead or contributed to those accidents. Understanding whether there are any trends, such as specific management system failures which put an organization at greater risk for a catastrophic event, would be of interest in the context of the Arctic Review.

CO2 is the most important of the greenhouse gases emitted by shipping. The shipping industry is prepared to play its part in reducing overall greenhouse gas emissions. In the report “Pathways to low carbon shipping – abatement potential towards 2030”, DNV projected the world fleet development towards 2030 and analysed the potential CO2 reduction.

Heavy fuel oil is not an option for future shipping within ECAs (Emission Control Areas). Alternatives have to be introduced. A DNV report concludes that LNG is the obvious alternative to satisfy future ECA requirements, particularly for the short sea shipping.

This white paper evaluates 26 U.S. technology companies on their reporting of sustainability management throughout their supply chains. By identifying best-in-class practices in sustainable supply chain reporting, we hope to encourage increased transparency throughout the U.S. Information and Communications Technology industry
The overall goal of a recently completed joint industry project (JIP) was to develop practical guidelines for using segmented induction bends and long-radius elbows for onshore pipeline construction and to identify practices which should be avoided.

DNV releases a white paper on the use of steel plate – light-weight concrete – steel plate sandwich material in marine constructions. In this paper DNV introduces the studies completed on this technology. Relevant patents for the technology have been released as well.
