In 2008, DNV piloted its environmental programme, WE do. The programme aimed to reduce individual employees’ environmental footprint in their daily lives – a footprint comparable to that of DNV’s operations. Since its launch, one of the aims of WE do has been to not only motivate employees, but to get other companies to follow suit as well.
The global financial crisis is not being taken lightly in DNV, but neither is its commitment to the environment. With this in mind, DNV remains dedicated to maintaining a focus on environmental issues and is renewing its WE do programme for 2009. Some changes have been made to the project list to reflect what will have the highest impact for employees at a country and regional level.
Continuing from last year, DNV has allocated NOK 40 mill for WE do. Employees will be able to apply for projects from their regional list and receive funding for 2/3 of the cost (before taxes) up to NOK 10 000 or NOK 20 000 over two years for designated large projects, such as an electric car.
WE do proved to be incredibly popular during its pilot year. More than half of all permanent employees applied for a project ranging from bicycles to cut down on car use, implementing solar panels, to environmental car conversions. The programme will continue for 2009 and is projected to be renewed in 2010 as well.
