Welding Procedure Specification

A Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) is a specification of the materials to be welded, detailing methods, practices and parameters employed in the welding of a particular joint.
A WPS is to be worked out when required by means of the relevant part of the DNV Rules. The approval of a WPS is normally carried out at the DNV local office.

Welding Procedure Qualification Test

A Welding Procedure Qualification Test (WPQT) is a comprehensive test witnessed by the DNV Surveyor in order to demonstrate that a weld made according to a specific WPS meets the given requirements. A WPQT is to be carried out if required by the relevant parts of the DNV Rules, otherwise it may be required depending on the welding shop’s previous experience.
