We offer independent verification that personnel, procedures, equipment and products meet specifications. We do this by applying risk-based methodology contained in a number of service specifications for various objects, covering some or all of the following activities:
DNV perform design review to DNV standards, recognised codes and standards, project specifications and operator performance standards. This includes EC directives on all types of equipment intended for use offshore. Design review is produced for specific jobs (case approval), or if the intention is to manufacture several over a period of time (type approval, valid for 4 years).
Fabrication surveys are based upon criticality (e.g. energy content, hazardous nature of fluids, structural importance) of equipment, statutory, class or flag requirements to third-party and operator or vendor preference.
Manufacturing survey arrangements
Manufacturing survey arrangements are available to clients with type approved products. An MSA reduces the level of DNV involvement in the production processes. This may be established for companies with ISO 9000 systems and after a successful Manufacturer product quality assessment.
Manufacturer product quality assessment
Manufacturer product quality assessments are a new quality rating system that audits manufacturing process from the shop floor. The assessment can also be used on behalf of a client on new or existing vendors.
Survey schemes are used for all types of equipment intended for offshore use, whether owned by an operator or service company. The equipment may be surveyed to a survey scheme agreed with DNV and the equipment owner.

The Pressure Equipment Directive is applicable to pressure vessels, piping and accessories. DNV has local resources for gap analysis and formal quality system assessment to 97/23/EC Pressure Equipment Directive and SI 2001(1999) Pressure Equipment Regulations. DNV can advise on the relevant codes and standards such as ASME VIII, PD5500 and ASME B31.3. DNV also advises on categorisation and choice assessment module.
