DNV's Values, Policies and Code of ethics addresses principles for integrity and impartiality and provides requirements for the overall organisation. The attitudes and behaviour of managers and employees are major factors to ensure impartiality and avoid conflicts of interest. For this reason DNV Climate Change Services has established Common Expectations for managers and employees which provide directions for attitudes and behaviour. The behaviour of our sub-contractors is equally important and our policy on the hiring of external personnel outlines the requirements related to conflict of interests. Evaluation of conflict of interest and impartiality are addressed on a case-by-case basis and documented throughout the sales and delivery process. The content of these governing documents related to impartiality and conflict of interest can be summarised into:
"We shall not verify or validate our own work"
Basic principle:
• DNV will not provide consulting services to a customer that is also a verification/validation customer if the consultancy activity is not acceptable in combination with verification/validation (e.g. if these services are directed towards development or operations of the verified/validated project).
